Lost Bread

It’s called pain perdu in France because it’s what you do with a stale baguette instead of throwing it away or throwing it to the birds.  The French are not fans of wasting anything that can be salvaged, so it isn’t surprising that this delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert item owes its existence to them.

We call it French Toast back home.

Good thing we had a rock-hard baguette left over from yesterday’s breakfast because it was the perfect sweet ending to today.

That’s one baguette that was most certainly not lost!
